John Pedder is a passionate artist whose work centers on the intricate art of woodcut printmaking. With a lifelong dedication to both woodworking and drawing, it wasn’t until about several years ago that John had an epiphany, merging his love of carpentry with his artistic practice. His journey into woodcut printmaking, though a bit delayed, has been nothing short of transformative. Inspired by the bold, experimental shifts of artists like Rothko and Pollock, he found in printmaking a way to slow down, infuse great effort into even the simplest marks, and embrace the magic of unpredictability.

John’s work is defined by a deep commitment to the two-dimensional surface, choosing to create within a self-imposed restriction. This decision to embrace flatness allows him to explore creativity in ways that transcend traditional methods, finding inspiration in limitation. While he humorously contrasts his approach with the high-tech spectacle of “Star Wars” special effects, he believes his design process is just as sophisticated, with the restraint offering him the freedom to explore new artistic possibilities.
