John Rogers aka Ghoulorama is a self-taught artist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, whose work seamlessly blends text and imagery. With a background in writing, he naturally gravitated toward incorporating words into his paintings, drawing inspiration from cubism, pop art, conceptual art, and the art of the 1980s onward. Rather than seeing text as separate from the visual, he treats it like a footnote—akin to captions in books or handwritten notes on Polaroids. Some of his works resemble painted memes, while others pull from songs, literature, or his own reflections. Whether the words come first or follow the image, they serve as an integral layer of meaning, adding depth and nuance to his bold, thought-provoking compositions.
